Our Academy

 

The Tot Spot is unique and distinctive, just like the children and families it serves.  Our environment provides the love, acceptance and comfort of Grandma's house, combined with the structure, aesthetics, and academics of a traditional school setting, all under one roof!

At the Tot Spot, we are guided by Christian principles, and that is the driving force behind what we do.  Here, your children will be exposed to prayer, teachings about Jesus and the Bible, and godly attributes.  We support a culture where biblical truths are regarded and upheld.

Here, we believe education must be well-rounded, engaging and holistic.  Children learn from organized classroom activities, but also from dramatic play, fun science labs, field trips and more.  Our goal is for your child to have an enjoyable, safe and effective learning experience.  Currently, we create our own curriculum, allowing us to diversify lessons that align with students needs, interests, and abilities. 

 

Using the Virginia Early Learning Blocks and Virginia Standards of Learning for Kindergarten as our guide, our instruction provides a targeted approach to ensuring our tots are ready for the next Level!  Your child will benefit from Orton-Gilliam based early phonics instruction, reading and writing, math & science skills, art, music & movement and more!  The Tot Spot also supports learning outside the classroom.  We routinely go on field trips that allow us to have stimulating hands-on experiences, practice valuable social skills and create lasting childhood memories and friendships.

The Tot Spot is registered and regulated by the Virginia Department of Education.  Our practices, personnel and facility have all been evaluated and approved by VDOE.  We are also a Trauma-informed provider.  The Tot Spot is located in the Tussing Elementary District of Colonial Heights.
